Vacation for a Cause

Independence Day is approaching and that can mean one thing. Before we know it, summer 2011 will be history. So if you’ve got some unused vacation time and didn’t get that summer vacation planned, why not consider a volunteer vacation? Here are a few vacation ideas that incorporate giving some time to your favorite cause.

Take a Staycation
There are plenty of opportunities in our community to get involved with your favorite nonprofit. Some projects can take several days. For an added bonus, treat yourself to staying at a nice hotel in town after a hard day’s work.

See the World
If your passion has more of a global impact, there are ways you can intertwine volunteering and traveling the world. There are numerous organizations that plan and host volunteer vacations for nearly any cause. These trips offer you the opportunity to visit all corners of the globe while making a difference in another community.

Include the Family
With the kids out of school, this gives you the perfect chance to spend time with them and teach them the benefits of giving back. Find out what they are passionate about; and find a way to include their passions with where you decide to volunteer. Making it a family vacation will not only help an organization but also create lasting memories.

Regardless of what you choose to do with your time, don’t forget it’s a vacation. Take the camera. You never know when you will have the perfect photo op.
